Two weekend showcases for the Volunteer states best. A huge weekend comes our way with two big national tourneys and some sub-state action as well.

In Dallas Texas the 2006 Next Level Ballers National Tournament gets underway tomorrow with a host of teams making the trip to the land that Emmitt built. In the 16 and under division the Memphis YOMCA finally gets to play some games on the court. The Texas fans will get a chance to get a load of Jason Jones (Ridgeway), Tim Ware (BTW) and Ricky Taylor (Haywood County).

The 17 and under division will feature four of the top eight summer squads in the state. Leading the way will be the Tennessee Mavericks. The Mavs feature combo guard Chaisson Allen (Oakland), Chattanooga big man Phillip Jurrick (East Ridge) and the Brentwood Academy duo of Brandon Brown and Brian Wright. The Murfreesboro Stars and Tennessee Travelers spend another weekend in Texas after playing last week in the Kingwood Classic. The Stars will feature Devon Jones (Liberty Tech) and C.J. Davis(Goodpasture). The Travs bring the three-headed monster of Terrance Oglesby (Bradley Central, Antwaine Wiggens (Greeneville) and Omar Wattad (Science Hill).

The final two Volunteer state representatives are from the Bluff City, The Memphis YOMCA and the Memphis Storm. The Y features the top player in the class Maurice Miller (Raleigh-Egypt), unfortunately not much is known about the Storm.

For the home folks the Music City should be a buzz with a nice event called "The King of the South". Teams from all over the Southeast come to Nashville for a weekend of tough competition.

If your a fan make the jaunt over and see some of the best 17 and under teams in the state. The Mid-State Ballerz Elite and Nashville Celtics head the list with a cavalcade of Tennessee's finest. The Celtics will be led by Gerald Robinson (MLK), Jaime Graham (White's Creek) and Scott Saunders (BGA). The Ballerz line-up for the opening tap with Deveyon Hunter (Hamilton), Jewon Long (Liberty) and Ken Bingham (McNairy Central).

Rounding out the remaining spots from the state will be the Mid-State Ballerz Select, Tennessee Elite, and Memphis Pump and Run. The Ballerz Select have a load of solid players. The Pump and Run has also went by Team Memphis Basketball Club and at the time featured Randy Culpepper (Sheffield) and Nick Walls (Ridgeway), but we are not sure if that roster is still intact.

The final event will appeal to those who wish only to see young up and coming ballers with Tennessee addresses. The 16 and under sub-state in Nashville will feature a very strong field. Some of the top teams in the 16 and under ranks including the Mid-State Ballerz Elite and Select, Tennessee Thunder and Nashville Stallions.

So put away the lawn equipment, grab the kids and make the trip to a gym near you for a wonderful weekend of basketball.
