Tigers win second consecutive tourney
What do you do for an encore?
After winning the Grassroots Shootout in Kentucky last weekend the Tennessee Tigers were riding some solid team chemistry into this weekends King of the South tourney in Nashville.
Picking up where they left off last weekend the Tigers used depth and skill to walk away with a hard fought 58-43 victory over the Mississippi Running Rebels. The Tigers stomped through pool play defeating their opponents by a wide margin before winning a pair of bracket contests to meet the Magnolia kids.
Led as always by the young magician Taverus Jefferson (Ensworth), the point guard and leader was instrumental in breaking the press and getting his troops into their halfcourt set. The Nashville boys got balanced scoring from Zeke Mason (Davidson Academy), who has matured and is playing the best ball of his life, Gary Pope (Ensworth) and Marcus Cantrell (Maplewood). Cantrell was especially tough as he scored and played solid defense. He even ran some point when Jefferson was hampered by a nagging injury. The Tigers use their tough defense to get their game started and no one is more vital in this effort than Miles Asafo-Adjei (Ensworth). The lanky athlete is a glue-like defender who gets everything started with his effort and hustle.
The Tigers will participate in their sub-state games this weekend in Lynchburg as they continue their march towards excellence. |
