What to expect in Memphis this weekend.
The stage is set for the clash of titans at the AAU state 17 and under tournament to be held at Bishop Byrne High School in Memphis. Eight teams will represent including some of the highest ranked squads in the state. Those teams are Mid-State Ballerz Elite (#3), Memphis Tigers (#5), Memphis YOMCA (#9), Tennessee Thunder (#12), Mid-State Ballerz Elite 16's (#13), Mid-State Ballerz Select (#14), Nashville Stallions (#19) and the Franklin Rage (#20).
Pool A features the Ballerz Elite, Select,Stallions and Tigers. Pool B will have the Rage,YOMCA,Thunder and Elite 16's.
Pool A appears to be a battle between the Ballerz Elite and the Memphis Tigers. The Ballerz will feature Jewon Long (Liberty), Kevin Smith (Riverdale), Josh Sain (Liberty), Deveyon Hunter (Hamilton) and T.O.C terror Antwan "Big Boy" Long. The Tigers parlay the Memphis Hamilton duo of Myron Strong and Broderick Gilcrest; as well as, William Green (Fairley) and Josh Street (Craigmont). These two squads should make the semis as the first and second seed , but never count out the Mid-State Ballerz Select. The "other" Ballerz team will jump up and spank an unsuspecting foe if they are not on their A game. The Select will be led by Tristan Carter and Markeese Curry (Jackson Southside), Reggie Bomar (Lexington) and Anthony Sampson (Liberty).
Pool B could turn out to be a battle between two of the top 16 and under squads who have made the choice to play up, but not if the Tennessee Thunder have anything to say about it. The Thunder will take the floor with Demonte Harper and Wil Peters (White's Creek) and hopefully a healthy Michael McAdoo (Antioch). The potential match-up between the Ballerz Elite 16's and the Y should be enough to make the home crowd stay put in their seats. The Elite feature the incomperable Scotty Hopson (Kentucky),Tyler Cutter (Seigel),Latavious Williams (Mississippi) and one of the state top rising juniors Kevin Giltner (Harpeth). The Y takes the court with the states top ranked player in the Class of 2008 Jason Jones (Ridgeway), Tim Ware (BTW) and Ricky Taylor (Haywood County).
Good basketball in the epicenter of Tennessee hoops. Good luck to all in attendance. |
