Ballerz come from behind to win title. The look in their eyes. The shock on their faces. The Mid-State Ballerz Elite 16's could not believe what had just transpired. The Tennessee Tigers playing for the Pool A top seed dismantled the Ballerz behind 30 big points from freshman sensation Taverus Jefferson and went into Sundays championship round on a high.

What a difference a day makes.

Scotty Hopson (Kentucky) and Latavious Williams (Mississippi) took matters into their own hands and helped the Ballerz escape with a 61-58 rematch victory over the Tigers. The Ballerz trailed the entire game until Tyshaun Edmondson (Kentucky) dropped a couple of foul shots with 2:30 remaining in the contest to give the Ballerz their first lead of the game. The Ballerz hung on from there and captured the 16 and under crown.

After their subpar effort on Saturday all in attendance were prepared for the match-up we had all anticipated with the top two 15 and under teams the Tigers and the Memphis YOMCA (War Eagles), but the Ballerz had other ideas. Behind 21 points from Hopson and 18 each from Edmondson and Williams the Ballerz put the rumors to rest defeating the War Eagles 74-68. The War Eagles were led by Leslie McDonald (Briarcrest) with 22 and Farrahkan Hall (MUS) with 13. In the other semi-final the Tigers got 18 from Gary Pope (Ensworth), 17 from Taverus Jefferson (Ensworth) and 10 from Zeke Mason (CPA) and defeated the host squad Tennessee Thunder 73-56. The Tigers trailed at the half but came on like gangbusters in the second stanza to pull away with the victory. The Thunder were led by Kyle Upton (Antioch) with 15. The stage was set for the rematch and the Ballerz were all to ready to take advantage.

In the consolation game the War Eagles got 24 big points from Justin Blake (Dyersburg) and 10 each from Farrahkan Hall and Johnnie Williams (MUS) to slip by the Thunder 61-51. The Thunder had another solid effort getting 20 points from Scott Newton (Harpeth) and 13 from Jeremy Williamson (Antioch).

In the 5th place game the Memphis YOMCA behind 12 points from Malcolm Burton (Ridgeway) dropped the Knoxville Cagers 79-53. The Y also got 11 from Sonny Hill (Central) and 10 from Trey Payne (Central). The Cagers were led by Sam Watson (Farragut) with 14, Skyler McBee (Rutledge) with 12 and Ryan Walden (Knoxville Catholic) with 11.

I will profile the top 20 players at the event on Monday night. So please stay tuned.
