The breakdown of last weeks games of the week East:

Grace Baptist Academy 56
Tennessee Temple 53

Grace Baptist got balanced scoring and a big three from senior Davis Eldridge in the fourth quarter to force an overtime and outlast Temple 56-53. The victory gives Grace a commanding district lead with another Temple game looming on the horizon.
Nick Van Horn led Grace with 19 big points followed by Eldridge and Jeffrey Smith both with 16. Carter McMasters chipped in with 13 boards and was a force on the defensive end of the floor.
Seth Skogen led Temple with 21 points and 12 boards. Dee Newsome chipped in with 11 markers.

Middle:
LaVergne 52
Beech 48

This double overtime affair was one of the contest I managed to check out this weekend. LaVergne got timely shooting in the second OT from Matt Smigielski and DeMario Watkins to win this hard fought district clash 52-48.
The game was billed as the Beech motion vs. the LaVergne athletes. It turned out to be a little of both. Beech was very effective in using their spread motion offense to get buckets but had a hard time keeping LaVergne off the boards. Marcus Jefferson, the tough sophomore, had a field day with easy putbacks and inside moves to post his game high 19 points.
Beech trailed 35-29 at the start of the fourth stanza but got two quick driving buckets from senior Adam Thompson and suddenly the score was knotted at 35.
LaVergne senior Mario Hunter missed the front end of a 1-1 and Beech senior guard Ben Wheeler tossed a long runner towards the bucket that rimmed off and the score at the end of regulation was tied at 39 all.
Thompson netted two foul shots to keep the score the same at 41 to close out the first extra session and then Smigielski and Watkins hit their dagger threes to help LaVergne coast to victory.
Jefferson led LaVergne with his 19 and Hunter chipped in with 11.
Beech got 14 apiece from Thompson and senior post Kendall Dunn.

West:
Hamilton 89
Mitchell 88

Jeremy Williams provided the spark and his teammates provided the punch as Hamilton kept their season record unscathed with an 89-88 victory over AA powerhouse Mitchell. The victory cemented the fact that Hamilton is the team to beat in AAA this season and also disproved the notion that they could not beat Mitchell when they were at full strength.
Earlier in the season Hamilton downed Mitchell, who was playing without the services of All-American wing Thad Young. The word on the corner was Hamilton could not beat them if they were at full strength. Well sports fans think again.
The aforementioned Young did stick in a game high 30 points, but Williams proved to be the catalyst with his all around preformance.
Hamilton was led in scoring by Broderick Gilcrest with 16 and Joseph Watkins and Myron Strong with 11 each.
