Saturday's Tennessee contest brings back two former hoops stars
The landscape for this Saturday's Tennessee Volunteers clash with #2 ranked Florida takes on a whole different meaning for me. I am not only excited abou the chance to witness high level college basketball but I am excited about getting to see two of the former top ranked players in the state as ranked by Tennessee Prep Hoops.
Lee Humphrey, the smooth shooting junior guard, was the top ranked player in the Class of 2003 when he was a senior at Maryville High School and Corey Brewer, the do it all sophomore sensation, was the top ranked player in the state when he prepped at Portland High School in 2004.
I have had the pleasure of knowing both of these young men for a few years now and am very excited about their return to the Volunteer state to take on Bruce Pearl and his new look Vols.
Living in Blount County I have had the great fortune of watching Humphrey as he grew up right in front of my eyes. I got to accompany him on his trip to the prestigious Nike Camp after his junior season and have truly enjoyed watching him mature as a basketball player during his tenure at Florida.
Corey Brewer has also been a good friend as he too made the trip to the Nike Camp on two occasions and I was fortunate enough to go along and observe the festivities.
So now the native sons return to Tennessee to battle the state school and establish their place , not only on the SEC scene, but on the national scope as well. I will be in attendance on Saturday and look forward to a tough hard fought contest where the best prepared team will be victorious. |
