Two of the mid-states toughest and talented big guys take their games to Dayton, Tn. The Harpeth High School inside duo of Scott Newton and Chase Baker announced that they have decided to continue their basketball careers at Bryan College. Bryan is a member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference which resides in NAIA. The Lions are coached by Don Rekoske and will be very pleased with the skill level of the Kingston Springs connection. Newton, who dropped 29 points on Tuesday night against Page, is a physical banger who can put it on the floor and score; as well as, make a living on second chance buckets due to his all out hustle and effort on the glass. Newton is not all brawn, as he is in the running for the coveted valedictorian spot at the annual ritual where seniors get to shake the principals hand for the last time, better known as graduation. Baker, who goes 6-4, is another hard working inside player who gets the most effort for his buck. At 6-4 he is not as offensively polished as Newton but plays with equal intensity and hustle. He will flourish at the next level where his fundamentals learned under Coach Jamie Wilson will serve him well. Newton, who stand 6-5, committed to Bryan after recieving some interest from Berry College in Georgia. He says he felt comfortable with the coaching staff and players and decided to end the process before the Harpeth playoff run. Good luck to both young men as they are potential all-conference players down the road.
