With their third consecutive trip to Murfreesboro, Humboldt should be able to claim residency in the state's fastest growing area.
Humboldt 52 Middleton 48 As stated in the intro Humboldt makes it's third consecutive trip to state with the crown squarely on their collective minds. Balanced scoring and patience were the order of the day as they got by a very tough Middleton squad 52-48. The Humboldt juniors took center stage in this game with Chauncey Hunt and Cordero Wade leading the scoring with 13 each and Elijah Epperson adding 12. Middleton was led by junior Jammie Cheairs with 13. The vicotry pits Humboldt against Wartburg Central in first round state action on Wednesday the 14th of March.
Memphis Westside 89 Trenton Peabody 74 One of the few wide margin victories of the evening. Greg Stewart scorched the nets for a career high 32 points leading Westside to the lopsided 89-74 victory. Stewart was a manchild scoring off the bounce and knocking down some mid-range jumpers, he was complemented in the scoring column by Derrick Richard with 23. Peabody got another outstanding effort from junior guard Robert Yancey. The 5-11 quick dropped 27 and if he's not committed already should be scarfed up some AAU squad. For their troubles Westside gets a first round battle with CSAS on Wednesday the 14th of March.
Culleoka 56 Eagleville 53 DeMario Williams proved to be the best player on the floor scoring 20 points and leading his troops to a berth in the state tourney. The highly sought after junior guard made big effort plays to keep his team alive and escape a very determined Eagleville bunch, who were led in scoring by Jay Paul Lenkner with 16 and senior Aaron Aldaffer with 10. Culleoka gets a Wednesday date with Cloudland next week in the first round of the state playoffs.
East Literature 49 Moore County 40 East Literature got 16 points from Michael Brookshire and got by Moore County to make a Wednesday date with Temple at the state playoffs next week. Brookshire was large picking up the slack for keyed upon leading scorer Kelvin Winrow, who finished with 8 points. Moore County got 10 from junior Tyler Jean.
Cloudland 50 Harriman 47 The Roan Mountain boys used tough defense and effort to slip by home-standing Harriman 50-47. The win takes Cloudland to the state tourney where they will tangle with a very good Culleoka squad on Wednesday afternoon action. Harriman was led in scoring by seniors Dominique Chatman with 22 and Tennessee Tech football signee Julian Goins with 14.
Wartburg Central 74 University High 65 Determined not to be left out of this year's state tourney, senior D.J. Shannon took things into his own hands.
