Raleigh-Egypt guard joins the DI parade....other commit around the country. Caleb Brown, the 6-1 guard from Memphis Raleigh Egypt commmitted to Coach Dave Loos and the Governors of Austin Peay yesterday bringing the DI tally to a solid 23 for the Class of 2007. Brown averaged a solid 16 points per game playing the shadow of Georgia Tech signee and Mr. Basketball Maurice Miller. His best basketball is certainly in his future and he will continue the Memphis pipeline to the Peay. Brown joins former Ridgeway stars Ernest Fields and Wesley Channels on the OVC thrillers roster. A cavalcade of activity in the past few days has brought some other commitments to the forefront. Cody Dunn (Montgomery Central) has pledged to continue his career at Oakland City College. The National Christian College Athletic Association school is located in Oakland City, Indiana and coached by Dr. Mike Sandifer. Knoxville Halls wingman Zach Cantrell has committed to play his college ball at DIII powerhouse Maryville College. Cantrell will make the short trip to Blount County and play for venerable mentor Randy Lambert, who surpassed the 500 victory mark this season, a great accompsihment for a great coach. The common theme in this paragraph seems to be Union. Union County scorer Ivan McCarty will continue his basketball days at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. See the Union theme. A member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference in NAIA, the Bulldogs are coached by Kelly Combs. Another Sain makes headlines as Derrick Sain (Humboldt) joins his brother Josh, who committed to Middle Tennessee State yesterday, as future college basketball players. Derrick will roll with Malcolm Montgomery's emerging Columbia State CC program. Jeremy Simmons (Jackson Central-Merry) will go beyond the state lines and play for Jaosn Durst at Hanibal-Lagrange College in Hanibal, Missouri. The NAIA school is a member of the American Midwest Conference. Jerry Hampton (BTW) will also leave the Volunteer states borders and travel to Booneville, Mississippi and attend Northeast Mississippi Junior College. Coach David Robbins runs a fantastic program and the athletic Hampton will fit nicely into his program. Moving back to the East, but still over the state line, Aaron Woodacre (University High) will play for Scott Polsgrove at Lee's McRae. The Bobcats run in DII and play in the Carolina-Virginia Athletic Conference. Woodacre will be a fan favorite in Banner Elk.
