Just when we thought the D1 signees had come to a close along comes Smig.
Matt Smigelski (LaVergne) will add his name to the growing list of D1 signees as the LaVergne sharpshooter signs his name to play for High Point University. The Big South school will welcome the talented Smigelski. A much better athlete than he's given crddit for, Matt will play tough defense and can shoot the ball when called upon. He is a tough minded player who played some of his best basketball late last summer while ballin' for the Mid-State Ballerz Elite. The future Panther will battle for some playin time in Bart Lundy's system.
Here are some other commitments over the weekend:
Todd Jenkins (Cosby) the little big man from Cosby, will continue his playing career down the road at Hiwassee. The TJCCAA member, coached by Danny Green, will welcome the hard, nosed shooting guard. Staying in the junior college ranks, Mareze Weaver (Covington) will continue his playing career at Jackson State. The consumate point guard has quickness and can score and will be a welcomed addition to Deron Hines and his ever growing recruiting class. Coming back East, Lee University had added Franklin High School forward Ryan Glover. The 6-5 Glover will bring his size and skill to the Cleveland campus. His game will be a nice addition for Coach Tommy Brown and his Flames. Just up the road, Coach Don Rekoske has added a third Tennessee recruit. Steven Gunter (Coalfield), brings his athletic guard skills and ball-hawking ability to the Bryan College campus. Gunter, who led the Knoxville area in steals, will join the Harpeth duo of Chase Baker and Scott Newton, as Volunteer state hoopsters on the NAIA schools roster.
