![]() Jalen Steele and James Gallman Very little change with the state summer rankings. With July right around the corner the summer session has given way to team camps and individual instructional events as the world readies for the grunt of the hot season. This week we feature the 16 and under teams which last weekend completed their state tourney in Nashville. The Mid-State Ballerz Blue captured the crown over the Memphis YOMCA.
16 AND UNDER 1. Tennessee YOMCA Tigers (1) Having already won 30 games on the summer this appears to be the team to beat. Led by the usual suspects Taverres Jefferson (Ensworth), Zaccheus Mason (CPA), John Jenkins (Station Camp) and Hunter Miller (CPA). A big time invite to the prestigious Peach Jam will be the icing on the cake for this squad. Look for even bigger happenings come July.
2. Mid-State Ballerz Blue (2) Kept the Memphis YOMCA from sweepig the AAU landscape with a big victory at state. Skyler McBee (Rutledge) is the go to guy and the pieces are falling into place for a sweet July run. Sam Watson (Farragut), D'Alvin Brown (Covington) and Terrence Williams (Brighton) have been shining lights for the Ballerz throughout the season.
3. Nashville Celtics (3) The real season begins in a few weeks as July approaches. The Celtics will ride the broad shoulders of Drew Kelly (Centennial) and the show known as Chase Dunn (Livingston Academy) into the hot months. Make no mistake there is more to this squad than those two as Zane Gibson (Baylor), Casey Prather (Jackson Northside) and Jon Hood (Kentucky) keep opponents in check.
4. Tennessee Travelers (4) An up and down ride thus far for the talented Travs as they look to use the July period to come out and really play. Consistency has been a problem but not for James Gallman (Fulton). The Knoxville star has etched his name onto everyone data base and will be making his mailcarrier quite unhappy with the volume of letters he shall soon be recieving.
5. Memphis YOMCA (9) Big finish at state gave this Bluff City crew the ammo to make an astounding leap forward. The biggest mover by far showed their stuff with some impressive showings in Nashville. Ian Clark (Germantown), Drew Barham (CBHS) and Reggie Fondren (Oakhaven) give the Y a nice nucleus from which to build.
6. Southeast Elite-Nashville (5) Last weeks sessions biggest mover will shake some things up with some July action of their own. Led by Thad McHaney (Brentwood Academy) and Josh Tidwell (Brentwood) this group will see marked improvement as a team the more they play together. If you play them in July.....beware.
7. Franklin Rage (6) Played in the much tougher pool at the state and managed a solid showing preparing for a building experience come July. The Rage have gotten inspired effort from Kevin Kegarise (Franklin) who seems to improve each and every time he steps on the floor.
8. Tennessee Fire (7) Captured third at state with a workmanlike effort from Adrian Williamson (Hume Fogg). Will have a chance to make some noise with a nice summer run.
9. Tennessee Flight (8) Dropped out of state but believed to be readying themselves for a July statement run at Hoosier Shootout. If they stay together this squad can be very dangerous.
10. Mid-State Ballerz White (10) 11. Mid-South Prospects (11) 12. Chattanooga Thunder (12)
15 AND UNDER 1. M33M Magic (1) 2. Tennessee Travelers (2) 2. Memphis YOMCA-Johnson (2) 4. Nashville Celtics (4) 5. Tennessee Thunder (5) 6. Mid-State Ballerz (6) 7. Tennessee Flames (7) 8. CDF Thrashers (8) 9. Tennessee Tigers (9) 10. Southeast Elite-Memphis (10) 11. Chattanooga Warriors (11) 12. Tennessee TarHeels (12)
17 AND UNDER 1. Memphis YOMCA (War Eagles) (1) 2. Southeast Elite-Memphis (2) 3. Mid-State Ballerz Blue (3) 4. Nashville Celtics (4) 5. Tennessee Travelers (5) 6. Team Chaos (6) 7. Tennessee Mavericks (7) 8. Tri-Cities Grizzlies (NR) 9. Tennessee Thunder (9) 10. Tennessee All-Stars (8) 11. Mid-State Ballerz White (10) 12. Memphis Hoopers-Gold (12) 13. Chattanooga Warriors (11) 14. Murfree-Town Hustlers (13) 15. Nashville Bearcats (14) 16. Knoxville Cagers (15)
The lack of activity made for lack of movement but with July around the bend this will be the ultimate shakeup for the rankings. Big events include Hoosier Shootout, AAU Nationals in 16 and 17, Kentucky HoopFest as well as many others.
