 Jason Jones
The Memphis YOMCA War Eagles and the Tennessee YOMCA Tigers finish up tough at one of the premier events of the summer.
Jason Jones (Ridgeway) scored 18 points but that was far from enough as the Memphis YOMCA fell to Howard Pulley 65-55 in the final game of pool play.
The Y gave great effort despite playing the game without stars Ferrakohn Hall (MUS) and Leslie McDonald (Briarcrest Christian). Hall has been hobbled most of the week and McDonald sat out the second half of the pool game.
Marlon Brown (Harding Academy) and Johnny Williams (Briarcrest Christian) helped out in the scoring column with 13 and 10 respectively.
Also worth a mention was the effort of Gregg Wooten (Briarcrest Christian) who never gave up and played hard when given the opportunity.
A heartbreaking overtime loss to an eventual finalist and a consolation game opponent the Lakers would'nt want to see spelled tough for the Tennessee YOMCA Tigers after two big wins against Team Texas and Meanstreets.
The New York Gauchos got a driving layin to slip by the Tigers in overtime 60-58. John Jenkins (Station Camp) continued his toridscoring pace in the final pool play game netting 26 to go along with earlier efforts of 24 and 30. Joining Jenk in the scoring column were Tavarres Jefferson (Ensworth) and Zaccheus Mason (CPA) both of whom knocked down 13.
For their troubles the Tigers advanced to the second place consolation bracket playoff game against a very angry BABC squad. Last seasons 15 and under national champions had fallen in pool play and were none to happy to say the least. The towering Boston stranglers proved to be too much for the Nashville crew.
Mason led the scoring brigade with 16 and had as many as eight big blocks for the game. Hunter Miller (CPA) chipped in 11 for the Tigers.
