![]() Nick Mason Three Tennessee teams played at the 15 and under nationals in Detriot. With the 17 and under nationals beginning tomorrow it was about time we made some mention of the 15 and under nationals that concluded a week or so ago. Three teams attended the event lets see how they did. MEMPHIS YOMCA-JOHNSON The winners of the 15 and under state tourney, the Memphis YOMCA was beset by some player defection but still made the trip to Detriot ready to represent. The Y finished pool play 2-1 and finished first advancing to the championship round. The Y fell in their first bracket contest but managed another victory to finish the event 3-3. Nick Mason (Fairley) was outstanding the entire week scoring from inside and especially from deep. The guard play was solid with Julian Burton (White Station) and Eric Watson (CBHS) playing tough and hard. Also getting some recognition for his efforts was Marquis Wilson (Wooddale).
CDF THRASHERS The Nashville warriors had a good run in Eight Mile finishing the event with a solid 3-3 record. The Thrashers finished pool play 2-1 and grabbed the second spot advancing to the championship bracket. Leading the scoring the entire weekend was athletic inside trooper Robert Wade (Maplewood). He averaged around 22 points per game including a team high 34. The CDF got outstanding guard play from the McGavock duo of Freddie Lee and Hollis Edwards. Helping Mr. Wade on the inside and from the wing were Braden Harden (Hillsboro) and Daniel McFadden (Ensworth).
TENNESSEE TIGERS The Tigers finished the nationals 1-2 in pool play before falling in classic bracket action to finish 1-3 against some very good competition. A slew of players gave their best effort including Justin Claybrook (Hume Fogg), David Sanders (MLK), Dezmond Johnson (Nashville Overton), Holden Mobley (MBA) and David Woodard (East Robertson). |
