Union City 59

Temple 55

The Golden Tornadoes found the going tough as they kicked off the Class A state tourney but found a way to move on and advance to the second round where they will meet Moore County on Friday., despite a huge effort from Temple junior Jeremy Sexton, who finished with 30.

The boys from the U.C. shot 2-25 from three but turned Temple over 26 times and hit foul shots down the stretch to make it to the second round.

Reigning Mr. Basketball in Class A, M.J. Brown led the Golden Tornadoes with 19, classmate Tony Wilkins added 16.

 

Manassas 51

Jackson County 33

The Tigers found themselves in a slowdown contest and facing a tough zone defense but managed to score enough buckets to advance to the second round where they will tangle with University. Reginald Buckner was solid despite limited offensive opportunity scoring 12 markers, garbbing 14 rebound and blocking 6 shots. Derek Richards added 10 in the victory.

Morgan Hensly led the Blue Devils with 10, while Bradley Crowder finished with 9.

 

University 73

Grace Christian 58

Josh Padgett tickled the twin for 27 leading the Junior Bucs past Grace Christian of Knoxville in Class A first round action. Padgett knocked down four threes and was joined in the scoring column by William Burton with 15 points and 10 boards. Evan Collins and Alex Denton contributed 12 each in the victory.

Cameron Pridemore led the Rms with 15, while Ryan Slusher added 14 and Adrian Wannamaker added 10.

 

Moore County 71

Eagleville 63

Tyler Jean played stat sheet stuffer finding the nets for 16 points, grabbing 11 caroms and dishing out 5 dimes while leading the Raiders to a second round date with top ranked Union City. Shane Worthy led Moore County with 20 points and 11 boards of his own. Justin Hill and Georgio Alexander both dropped 13 in the win.

Balance was the Eagleville staple in a huge comeback from 20+ down. Jared Wilson and Khameron Lillard finished with 12. Jimbo Porter, Jay Paul Lenkner and Jo Jo Wilson finished with 11 respectively.
