The first of our profiles on the top 17 and under squads in the state
Is their a better time of the year than right now. The Final Four is right around the corner and summer basketball is upon us once again.
Today we will profile the Tennessee Travelers and the Tennessee Breakers.
TENNESSEE TRAVELERS
Coach: Charlie Benson, Larry Robinson
Tournaments: Nike Memorial Day, Peach Jam, Smokey Mountain Invitational, Boo Williams, and many others.
Roster:
Omar Wattad (6-5 SG) Science Hill
Terrance Oglesby (6-3 SG) Bradley Central
Antonie Wiggens (6-7 WF) Greeneville
Cameron Sharp (6-1 PG) Knoxville Halls
Davis Warner (6-5 WF) Smyrna
Tony White Jr. (5-11 PG) Bearden
Keith Dodd (6-8 PF) Bradley Central
Ryan Langhi (6-8 PF) Father Ryan
Tyler Watkins (6-1 PG) Heritage Christian (Ga.)
Kyle Groothuis (6-6 WF) David Brainard
On paper one of the best Travelers teams in the past few seasons. The addition of Wiggens is huge in that it gives them an athletic wing that will complement the inside size and solid guard play. Sharp, Oglesby and White wil man the guard spots with relief help from Watkins. Wattad will play the wing and also help at the two. His game has risen a great deal since the end of the season. Look for him to have a breakout summer. The key to the Travelers success will be the contributions of the large fellows namely Dodd and Langhi. These two big men are capable and can get the job done.
TENNESSEE BREAKERS
Coach: Mark Gulmire
Tournaments: Kentucky Hoopfest,Hoosier Shootout, West Virginia and others
Roster:
Zach Cantrell (6-3 WF) Knoxville Halls
Kyrus Lanxter (6-2 SG) Alcoa
Jordan Roth (5-10 PG) Knoxville Karns
Tyler Garrett (6-7 C) Rutledge
Brian Sommers (6-2 SG) Alcoa
Jesse Booher (6-0 SG) Knoxville Karns
Justin Walker (6-3 PF) Austin East
Will Jolley (6-4 PF) Maryville
Coty Sensabaugh (5-11 SG) Dobyns-Bennett
Connor Gulmire (6-3 WF) Oak Ridge
Brett Roddy (6-3 PF) Pickett County
The Breakers continue to surprise their opponents with hard all out energy and hustle. This is the staple of any Mark Gulmire coached team. The fiesty veteran led a tough bunch of team players to a second place finish at the prestigious Hoosier Shootout a couple of years ago. This team may not approach the accolades of those squads but will play hard and give a full time effort. The addition of Sensabaugh gives the Breakers another solid athlete to help with their overall athleticism.
