AAU info on the Mid-State Ballerz, Tennessee Mavericks
Day Two of our breakdown and preview of the top 17 and under AAU and summer teams from around the state. Today we will preview the Mid-State Ballerz Elite, Mid-State Ballerz Select and Tennessee Mavericks.
MID-STATE BALLERZ ELITE
Coach: Jeremy Shulman, Mike Artis
Tournaments: Real Deal on the Hill, Bob Gibbon's Tournament of Champions, Kingwood Classic, Ballerz Challenge of Champions and many others.
Roster:
C.J. Davis (5-9 SG) Goodpasture
Antwon Long (5-11 WF) Liberty Tech
Ken Bingham (6-4 WF) McNairy Central
Josh Sain (6-5 WF) Liberty Tech
Kevin Smith (6-4 WF) Riverdale
Jewon Long (6-1 PG) Liberty Tech
Matt Smigelski (6-2 SG) LaVergne
Devon Jones (6-5 PF) Liberty Tech
Jeremy Dixon (6-5 WF) Mt. Juliet
Katarious Taylor (5-9 PG) Brighton
Deveyon Hunter (6-3 WF) Hamilton
Jeff McClain (6-4 WF) Kentucky kid
A huge departure from the high level recruits the Ballerz have enjoyed in the past few seasons such as Reginald and Richard Delk, Niccheaus Dokes, Jarvis Varnado, and a slew of other DI signees. This squad should be balanced and coachable with a good group of athletes poised to contribute at all five spots. The Ballerz got a major coup with Memphis Hamilton stud Deveyon Hunter. His athletic build and city tempo will make this a very dangerous team. Look for big summers from the likes of Jewon Long, Ken Bingham and the aforementioned Hunter.
MID-STATE BALLERZ SELECT
Coach: Jeremy Shulman, Mike Artis
Touraments: Real Deal on the Hill, Kingwood Classic, Ballerz Challenge of Champions and many others.
Derrick Sain (6-5 PF) Humboldt
Josh Lipscomb (6-4 WF) Hillwood
Tee Burnette (5-11 PG) Riverdale
Cory Payne (6-4 WF) Mt. Juliet
Ralph Strayhorn (6-2 SG) Jackson Southside
Reggie Bomar (6-4 WF) Lexington
Shaun Merriweather (6-4 WF) Clarksville
Tristan Carter (6-2 SG) Jackson Southside
Travis Burns (6-4 WF) Brighton
Ryan Westbrooks (6-1 SG) Hillsboro
Herman Wakefield (5-11 PG) Brighton
Cid Harrell (5-10 PG) Memphis Central
After looking at this roster can you really call this squad the B team. The Select roster has good inside players like Payne, Sain and Merriweather. The guards are solid with Westbrooks, Carter and Harrell. This team will be a handful and will give their so called big brother a challenge should they meet up down the road.
TENNESSEE MAVERICKS
Coach: Michael Allen
Tournaments: King of the South, schedule not yet finalized.
Roster:
Chaisson Allen (6-4 SG) Oakland
Nathan Cass (6-6 PF) Zion Christian
John Garrett (6-2 SG) Brentwood Academy
Kit Carlton (6-7 PF) Oakland
Brandon Brown (6-5 WF) Brentwood Academy
Phillip Jurrick (6-9 C) East Ridge
Jaffarious Wade (5-11 PG) Oakland
Brian Wright (6-4 WF) Brentwood Academy
The Mavericks will surprise the AAU scene with a very good roster loaded with players that have gotten the recruiting world abuzz. Chaisson Allen is an intruiging big guard, Phillip Jurrick is drawing attention with his inside skill and Brandon Brown and Brian Wright have turned heads with their play throughout the season. If this team puts things together they will be tough to deal with.
Tomorrow we will preview the Nashville Celtics and the Tennessee Thunder
