Shelbyville star inks with SEC school
Patience is a virtue. Or so they say.
Good things come to those who wait. They say that also.
How about good things happen to good people. That one I like best.
The cavalcade of cliques all came to head this morning as Shelbyville guard Barry Stewart will sign his name to play with the Mississippi State Bulldogs of the Southeastern Conference.
Stewart, the 6-2 lynchpin of one of the greatest runs in state tournament history, saw his recruitment soar as he rode the wave of success throughout his senior campaign.
Awarded the coveted Mr. Basketball this season, Stewart averaged around 20.0 points per game and helped Shelbyville achieve their highest finish in school history.
The smooth mid-range game is what caught the eye of the big time coaches and his ability to get his shot off against bigger, stronger competition was a valuable asset as well.
Stewart will need to add strength to his frame to take the physical pounding that the SEC is famous for. The young man will work his tail off and will be a solid player as his career progresses.
Stewart is the 23rd member of Class of 2006 to sign DI. He is also the seventh member of the Mid-State Ballerz Elite showcase squad of last summer to sign DI.
Stewart will also be the fourth player from the Ballerz to sign with Mississippi State joining Jarvis Varnado and Richard and Reginald Delk.
