Celtics rock at Real Deal
The Nashville Celtics 17 and under squad made noise in their first major tournament of the summer by finishing 4-2 at the fabulous Real Deal on the Hill. The Celtics finished pool play with a record of 2-1 getting hard fought victories over Fox Valley Skillz and the Mid-West Storm and falling to a very good Utah Pump-n-Run team. A three way tie was determined by points and the Celts took hold in the consolation bracket.
The ball got rolling with victories over St. Louis Majestics and Birmningham Raptors before falling to the Tulsa Titans. Those in attendance were quick to praise the tough backcourt of the Celtics especially the exploits of Gerald Robinson (MLK).
"Big G" was a show unto his own with big games of 25, 19 and 18. His three point play sealed an early victory and his two-handed crunch of a missed shot was talked about by all. Coaches from big and small were climbing themselves to watch this youngster who is minutes from blowing up huge.
The Celtics got great play from Jaime Graham (White's Creek) and Josh Slater (Lipscomb) on both ends of the floor. Inside the Celts got tough, consistent play from Scott Saunders (BGA) before an unfortunate ankle tweak and inspired play from Rashad Mason (Pearl Cohn). Not to be outdone Lamont Harris (Centennial) made his own news handing out more rejections than Harvard Law and Cameron Jordan (Hillsboro) made news with his solid defensive efforts.
In the 16 and under classification the Celtics finished 2-3. The boys got huge efforts from DeMario Williams (Culleoka) and Rapheal Gaskins (Glencliff). Also playing well was big Chandler Gross (Shelbyville).
The 15 and under squad playing in one of the toughest pools finished the weekend 0-3 but managed to hold their own in all of their games. |
